Due to continued growth Metro Trains Melbourne currently have multiple vacancies for As-Built Review Engineers to work within the Level Crossing Review Group (LXRG).

The LXRG group reviews all design and as-built packages on behalf of MTM across the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) portfolio.

LXRP is a large-scale project that will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services.

The Role: 

The As-Built Review Engineer is responsible for the provision of effective and timely technical review services of as-built drawings submitted by the LXRP and Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) Packages, in accordance with MTM standards and guidelines, to ensure they accurately describe the final completed works and comply with PTV Infrastructure Drafting Standard. 

These are full-time permanent role, based in Melbourne’s CBD. 


  • Liaison and coordination of design related matters with members of the LXRP and MTP Packages, as well as with other necessary internal MTM Departments.
  • Undertake reviews of as-built drawings and prepare review comments in accordance with MTM’s processes and procedures.
  • Work with the As-built Engineering Manager to expedite the clearance of review comments.
  • Support the design team by undertaking design reviews on an as need basis.
  • Liaise with MTM Infrastructure Delivery, external and internal Project Staff to ensure functional and operational requirements are met and all design related matters are effectively managed.
  • Plan, organize and monitor assigned as-built review tasks to ensure their completion on time and good quality.
  • Ensure standards are maintained and conform to applicable safety, reliability and quality standards.
  • Report frequently on the progress of all issues regarding the assigned tasks and promptly notify necessary management of any matters which could have a material adverse effect on project or the business.

Desired qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in Civil and / or Signalling discipline highly regarded
  • Prior experience in design reviews will be highly regarded.
  • Experience within an urban passenger railway environment will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to analyse data and write and present reports.
  • Ability to apply risk management process.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to management and staff at all levels (verbal and written).
  • Time management and awareness of meeting deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of team
  • Understanding the importance of interfacing with colleagues on a common project with a “best for the business” approach to problem solving and priorities.
