The Metro Tunnel Project will deliver more frequent services for passengers by unlocking the City Loop and introducing new technology and infrastructure that will transform our network.

About the role: The Metro Tunnel Project is being delivered in three work packages, with a program level team assisting each package. The three work packages are: Rail Systems Alliance, Rail Infrastructure Alliance and the Tunnels & Stations Public Private Partnership. You will lead a team of engineers and subject matter experts to complete design assurance activities on behalf of Metro on the Metro Tunnel Project. Main responsibilities of the role will include: 

  • Manage/provide review of designs relating to the new conventional signalling systems as well as the proposed changes to the existing operational conventional signalling systems and their interface with other network control systems, including CBTC
  • Assess the migration/deployment strategies for new conventional signalling equipment to assess risk and ensure minimal potential for disruption to the passenger information and control systems
  • Participate in the revision/development of relevant standards relating to signalling equipment
  • Discharge all responsibilities in a manner that ensures the safety of the operating system is not compromised during the life cycle of the project
  • Assist the Engineering Interface Managers and Engineering SME’s in preparing and processing Type Approvals, Standard Waivers and Engineering Changes
  • Contribute to the risk register during the design and implementation phases, including monitoring and reporting of risk status
Desired qualifications, skills and experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical/Electronics Engineering is essential
  • At least 5 years’ experience in conventional signalling design as a checker and/or approver
  • Experience in design and/or commissioning of signalling equipment in a Victorian rail or tunnel/suburban environment is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to lead and develop team members and manage stakeholders
  • Ability to assess design documentation against functional specifications to confirm compliance
  • Understanding of fire and life safety in an underground rail environment
