We are currently seeking a Signalling Design Manager for work on our Level Crossing Removal Project. This large-scale project will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services.

In this role, you will undertake signal design activities and support various functions within the program alliance.


  • Production or checking of signalling design which may include Signalling Arrangement Plans, Control Tables, Aspect Sequence Charts, Braking Calculations, Time Distance graphs, Route tables, headway calculations and other engineering calculations
  • Production or checking of the detailed circuit or data design of signalling systems, in accordance with Metro's and industry requirements and standards
  • Production of concept signalling designs for future level crossing removals and associated works
  • Produce Design Reports and Signalling Design Management Plans
  • Manage signalling design tenders & contracts
  • Assist with the production of Engineering Change Notices, Design Practice Notes, Standard Waiver documentation and other Alliance documentation
  • Perform or witness signal testing and commissioning activities and site acceptance and system integration
  • Identify and assist in resolving non-conformances with the design standards or the operational requirements and advise the Alliance on acceptability

Desired experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering suitable for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia or qualifications and experience suitable for admission as Associate Member (minimum) to the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers
  • Proven experience in signal design production, checking and verification at the principles level
  • Proven experience in providing technical engineering services in railway signalling, system design, review, and other similar services
  • Understanding of construction basics and working in the rail corridor
