The opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Design Manager to join our North Eastern Program (NEPA) Alliance team. The Alliance is a four+ year program focused specifically on road based solutions under the Level Crossings Removal Project. Delivered with minimal disruption to the rail network, the Alliance offers an enviable work life balance, a great culture and the opportunity to take the next step in your career - taking the design management responsibility for a level crossing removal.
We are looking for a leader who will support and motivate our subcontracted Design team – ensuring the focus remains on safety, quality, cost and schedule in the planning and execution of the work.
Key tasks will include:

Developing a thorough understanding of the project(s) design requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule
Organise and coordinate design related assignments from project set-up to completion that contribute to overall Project(s) delivery – including resource allocation
Manage Project Budgets and contribute to Project estimates
Developing and maintaining the project’s scope of work documentation and revise as required during the design process
Preparing a list of engineering deliverables and time-based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget
Supervise and direct technical design personnel in the preparation of preliminary engineering reports, designs, plans and specifications, and contract documents
Managing and reviewing documentation associated with all deliverables and time-based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met, and taking corrective action if necessary
Supervising, training and motivating Design Project personnel to achieve Project KPIs and desired outcomes
Reviewing and approving structural engineering and design standards
Perform design reviews and engineering discipline coordination

To be successful in this role you will require the following skill sets:

Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
Demonstrated experience leading and managing Design teams for Infrastructure Projects (Bridge design experience essential)
Previous experience in an Engineering consultancy or construction environment
Excellent ability to understand and interpret project and client specific requirements
Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management skills
Strong deliverable focus and ability to plan work
Excellent understanding and belief in safety principles, standards and legislation
Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple workloads
